No injuries; blaze extinguished early Sunday morning

Flames engulfed Freeland’s Designtech Custom Interiors early Sunday morning, destroying the business. The blaze is under investigation.

Tittabawassee Township Fire Chief Philip Shaver said when firefighters arrived, 75% of the building was on fire at 8570 Carter Road, a short distance north of M-47.

There was no one in the building, which was scheduled to reopen on Monday morning. Shaver said they will continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

Shaver said the call came in at 12:03 a.m. Sunday and firefighters arrived moments later. He said they were assisted by Thomas Township and Saginaw Township fire departments. No one was injured in extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 5:30 a.m.

Nearby resident Michael Kleinfeld told the Daily News, “There was an alert in our system for excessive infrared, so I checked the cameras and there was a raging fire. I called the police and they were unaware of the fire at that time. Three townships responded (and) they did an amazing job.”

Designtech Custom Interiors has been designing cabinetry and furniture in the Great Lakes Bay Region for over 25 years.
